Le PAL lodges: sleep beside hippos or watch savannah animals from your terrace
Choose the animals before the room. At Le PAL in central France, Hippopotamus Lodges face hippos and white pelicans; Savannah Lodges overlook impalas, wildebeest, zebras, greater kudu, oryx, ostriches and cranes; rooms at PAL Savana RESERVE look towards giraffes, rhinoceroses and antelopes.

Pick the animal view, then check the live package
Le PAL sells several seasonal packages. Compare the exact accommodation, operating dates, park access and meals on the official booking page before paying.
Which animals can you observe from each accommodation?
Le PAL separates its onsite accommodation into three main animal settings. Visibility is never guaranteed at a particular moment because the animals move freely within their habitats.
| Animal experience | Accommodation | View and room category |
|---|---|---|
| Hippopotamuses and white pelicans | Hippopotamus Lodge and accessible Hippopotamus Lodge | A private terrace looks directly onto the lake. Standard lodges sleep up to five; the accessible category sleeps up to four. |
| Impalas, wildebeest, zebras, greater kudu, oryx, ostriches and cranes | Savannah Lodge and accessible Savannah Lodge | Raised lodges face the mixed savannah. Standard lodges sleep up to five; the accessible category sleeps up to four. |
| Giraffes, rhinoceroses and antelopes | PAL Savana RESERVE hotel rooms | Balconies or terraces overlook the savannah. Categories range from family rooms to connecting rooms and suites, generally for two to six guests depending on the room. |
What does the premium stay include?
The following details were checked against Le PAL’s official accommodation pages and FAQ on 14 October 2026. Packages change with the operating calendar, so confirm every inclusion in the final booking summary.
| Item | Included or provided | Optional, excluded or to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Park admission | The main Austral package lists two days in the animal and amusement park. Le PAL currently advertises the 2027 Austral season from 10 April to 26 September 2027. | The Indian Summer package advertised for 3–31 October 2026 includes the animal park from 10:00 to 17:00, but the rides are closed. Always match tickets to your exact dates. |
| Dinner and breakfast | Dinner and breakfast are included in the standard lodge and Savana RESERVE package descriptions. The October 2026 Indian Summer offer is advertised as full board, excluding drinks. | Drinks are excluded where stated. Restaurant, service format and meal times depend on the package and operating period. |
| Bed linen and towels | Official room descriptions list bed linen, towels and bath sheets as provided. | The public pages checked do not clearly confirm that every bed is made before arrival. Confirm preparation of sofa beds, children’s beds and baby equipment. |
| Bathroom | The lodges have a private bathroom with shower, basin and toilet. Savana RESERVE rooms list a shower room and separate toilet. | Choose the specifically advertised accessible lodge or room when step-free circulation and adapted fittings are required. |
| Kitchen and food storage | Coffee and tea facilities are listed in the lodges; Savana RESERVE rooms include tea and coffee supplies. | Le PAL’s FAQ states that lodges do not have a kitchen or refrigerator. Do not book them as self-catering accommodation. |
| Terrace or balcony | Each lodge category includes a private animal-facing terrace. Savana RESERVE rooms include a terrace or balcony overlooking the savannah. | The exact field of view and animal activity vary by unit, weather and time of day. |
| Activities | The October Indian Summer package lists educational activities and animal-related encounters during the stay. | Keeper experiences, backstage activities and other extras are sold separately when available. Age, schedule and safety conditions apply. |
| Cleaning | No separate routine cleaning fee is stated on the public accommodation pages checked. | End-of-stay duties, damage deposits and exceptional cleaning charges are not clear enough to assume. Read the current booking terms. |
| Parking | Accommodation pages describe dedicated car parks that are closed and guarded at night. Le PAL’s general FAQ describes its parking areas as free. | Electric-vehicle charging is listed as available; charging fees and access conditions should be checked for the travel date. |
| Taxes and supplements | No tourist-tax inclusion was confirmed on the public pages checked. | Tourist tax, drinks, celebration packages, baby equipment and optional activities may be added. Verify the final total at checkout. |
How to choose the right Le PAL stay
The rooms are part of the experience, not an afterthought. These accessible lodge variants show the generous interiors, natural materials and wide openings onto the terrace.

Hippopotamus Lodge
Choose this category when the close lake setting matters most. The terrace faces hippos and white pelicans rather than a broad mixed-species plain.
Savannah Lodge
This is the lodge experience for a mixed savannah: zebras, wildebeest, antelopes, ostriches and cranes move through the landscape in front of the raised terrace.
PAL Savana RESERVE
Choose the hotel for conventional room service and a balcony or terrace over the giraffe, rhinoceros and antelope savannah. It is onsite but is not a freestanding lodge.
PSH lodges and rooms
Both lodge settings have a specifically advertised accessible unit, and the hotel also lists accessible rooms. Confirm the exact bathroom, bed and terrace configuration before booking.
Getting to Le PAL without a car
Le PAL is in Saint-Pourçain-sur-Besbre in the Allier department. The closest railway station is Dompierre Sept-Fons, but the park’s access page also directs travellers to regional connections from Moulins and Vichy.
- By train: compare services to Moulins-sur-Allier, Vichy and Dompierre Sept-Fons. The best choice depends on the seasonal shuttle and taxi availability on your date.
- Regional shuttle: official access information lists seasonal regional-coach connections from the Moulins/Yzeure bus station and from Vichy bus station. Timetables and reservation conditions change, so check the current official PDF before travelling.
- Last mile: if no shuttle matches check-in or check-out, reserve a taxi in advance. Do not rely on finding an on-demand rural connection after arrival.
- By car: follow the route shown on Le PAL’s official access page and leave enough time for the accommodation check-in window.
